Berghaus

Berghaus was born is 1966, when two keen climbers from the UK, Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison decided to open a store that sold the sort of outdoor products that met their own exacting needs. Berghaus, in German, loosely means 'mountain hut' and has developed it's range of equipment, from it's mountaineering and climbing routes to a whole range of outdoor gear much of which has been adopted by walkers and hikers scaling feets all over the world.

The Cyclops backpack is arguably the first item to truly put Berghaus on the outdoor gear map, as it is considered by many to be the first commercially available backpack with an internal frame - now taken for granted by most climbers and walkers. In 1980, Chris Bonnington, now inextricably linked with Berghaus, joined the team, helping test Berghaus products on his worldwide expeditions. Berghaus was also one of Europe's pioneers in the use of breathable fabrics in the use of their clothes, with the use of the now infamous Gore-Tex fabric. Berghaus' tag line provides a great summary of their philosophy on manufacturing outdoor equipment: 'trust is earned'.
